China’s canned meat production has been for nearly half a century, the industry is in its growth period, both the production technology and market demand of the products have had a good development. In terms of the locations of domestic main canned meat producers, the region of canned meat industry is relatively scattered, East China and Southwest China are the two regions accumulating the most domestic canned meat production enterprises; in terms of enterprise condition, China has over 100 canned meat production and processing enterprises, of which private enterprises account for a larger part in the market, the product sales is more limited in regional market, some canned meat production and processing enterprises have larger scale, with hundreds of millions of assets, tens of thousands of tons of production capacity, independent import and export operation rights, but most are still small and medium enterprises; in terms of output, the output shows a trend of regional distribution, the total canned meat output of East China accounts for more than 30% of China’s total output; in terms of canned meat market demand, consumption group is extensive, the market distribution is affected by sales channel coverage, economic development extent and regional eating habits; in terms of import and export trade, China imported a total of 279 tons in 2011, mainly from the United States and Europe, the total export reached 45,100 tons, mainly to Japan, Southeast Asia and Africa.
